Hall Cosplay

Show off your self-made cosplay before our panel of experienced judges, explain how you made it and what you love about it. No walk-on or skit is required, just come to the Contest Room between 11:00 and 13:00 on Sunday for a chat with our judges and we'll take a photo. Prizes will be awarded at Closing Ceremonies for winners and runners up in Expert, Journeyman and Novice categories. Please note you have to have made at least 80% of your costume yourself.

1. CONTEST FORMAT

1.1 Contestants should come to the Contest Room (8-203) in person on Sunday between 11:00 and 13:00 to be judged. It would be helpful to bring reference photos of your character so the judges can judge your accuracy, photos can be on your phone.

1.2 Each contestant will be asked to fill out a short form and assigned a number.

1.3 Forms will be collected and contestants called up to the judging table in numerical order to be interviewed.

1.4 Contestants waiting to be judged may stay in the Contest Room or return later if there's a long wait. However if you leave you may miss your turn if you don't return in a timely fashion. If the room becomes crowded we may have to ask non-contestants or those who have already been judged to leave.

1.5 When called, a contestant will pose for a photo holding their number and then have a short chat with the judges about their cosplay. We have to keep things brief to give everyone a fair chance but we'll do our best to let you explain important details. Contestants will not be asked to perform.

1.6 The judges will make notes and then you are free to leave the room.

1.7 The winners will be announced at the closing ceremony. Contestants must be on hand to accept the awards.

1.8 Prize categories are:
- Best Novice
- Runner-up Novice
- Best Journeyman
- Runner-up Journeyman
- Best Expert
- Runner-up Expert
- Judges Choice

2. RULES AND REGULATIONS

2.1 Contestant must be a registered convention attendee in order to participate.

2.2 Costumes and props must be suitable and appropriate for all ages. Costumes should have a theme consistent with what Animethon celebrates - ie, from anime, comics, video games, or pop culture. Costumes and props should adhere to general Animethon rules and regulations including the weapons and props policy. Exceptions may be made by the Hall Cosplay Coordinator or Director of Programming.

2.3 Contestants must have made at least 80% of their costume themselves. It's okay if you followed a guide or had instruction/tips from someone else but you need to be able to prove you did most of the work yourself. Our judges are experienced costume makers and will be able to tell if you're fibbing. This is a craftsmanship-only contest.

2.4 Contestants will be judged on accuracy, workmanship and fit.

2.5 You may enter a cosplay which has also been entered in the Cosplay Contest but not a cosplay which has already won an award for Hall Cosplay at Animethon, regardless of who wore it.

2.6 Categories are determined by contestants previous awards. To be considered a Novice contestants must have no previous awards for any costumes. Journeymen have won 1-3 awards and Expert 4 or more awards. Performance-only awards do not count.

2.7 Contestants agree to having their photo taken for judging and prize-giving purposes.

2.8 The Hall Cosplay contest is not intended to be a spectator event. While contestants and their friends are welcome to stay for the duration of the judging process, space permitting, anyone disrupting the judging process will be asked to leave the room.
