Karaoke Contest

Do you like to sing? Come join our Karaoke Contest.

Remembering the lyrics isn't required (although encouraged). Typically songs are from video games or anime. Mix it up and give a shot at singing in the original language of the song if you'd like.

A panel of judges evaluate the contestants in various categories; trophies and prizes get awarded at the end.

1. CONTEST FORMAT

1.1 It is encouraged that contestants pre-register for Animethon’s Karaoke Contest, due to the organizational complications of “first come, first served”. A limit of 40 entries has been imposed – pre-registration closes on Sunday, July 31st OR when the entry cap has been reached.

1.2 Preliminaries for Animethon’s Karaoke Contest will take place in room 6-132 from 11:00 to 14:00 on Saturday the 11th of August. Only contestants present for the preliminaries may advance to the finals.

1.3 During the preliminaries, contestants have 2:00 minutes from the point where they begin order to wow the judges. Finalists will sing their full song.

1.4 The coordinator requests that all contestants be punctual, as the performance order will be set beforehand. Finalists MUST sign-in 30 minutes prior to the finals starting time or they will be disqualified.

1.5 The karaoke Contest final will take place on Sunday the 12th of August at 12:00 to 13:30.

1.6 The winners will be announced at the closing ceremony. Contestants must be on hand to accept the awards.

2. RULES AND REGULATIONS

2.1 Contestant must be a registered convention attendee in order to participate.

2.2 In the event of a cancellation or no-show, interested parties present at the preliminaries who did NOT pre-register for the competition will be allowed to participate until the limit has been reached.

2.3 Performances can be solo or group entries. Groups are limited to four per group, and you may only enter once. You may not enter this competition as both a group and a solo entry, or as a member of two groups. Non-performing back-up dancers are not permitted.

2.4 Songs must be from anime, Japanese video games, Japanese drama or soaps, J-pop, J-rock, J-rap, J-R&B, or Japanese folk. English or other non-Japanese songs from the dubbed version of an anime series, pop-culture show or Japanese video game are also acceptable. If you have any further questions regarding this, please email the coordinator at: karaoke@animethon.org

2.5. Please include your song with your submission (once you submit your entry you can upload mp3 files). No actual instruments will be permitted; we do not have the appropriate equipment to accommodate them.

2.6 Songs must be no shorter than 2:00 minutes in duration, and no longer than 6:30 minutes.

2.7 Participants must choose 3 songs in order to avoid duplicates in the competition. This is a 'first come, first served' basis. Finalists may change their song in the finals as long as said song is not already in use.
