Animethon and Edmonton Gunpla Builders are excited to bring the world of Gundam PLASTIC models to Animethon 2023. There will be displays, workshops, building demos, as well as THE ANIMETHON BANDAI BUILDERS CONTEST! What is Gunpla?
The term “Gunpla” is short for “Gundam + Plastic Models.” They are models of the mecha featured in THE “MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM” FRANCHISE.

Nii Gunpla shop is a hobby shop mainly distributing hobby model kits, paints and tools.
Started in 2009, they are a proudly small Canadian owned business located online and in HUB mall at the University of Alberta.
Who is the Edmonton Gunpla Builders (EGB)?
Edmonton Gunpla Builders is a collective community of like-minded builders and collectors that enjoy the hobby of Gunpla Building! Community members in association with the Model Enthusiast Group meet once a week (Millwoods Town Center and soon to be various other locations, TBA) to socialize, build, and showcase their work!

Giveaways
Sign up for giveaways winners will be drawn and announced on the Entertainment stage for the weekend! Be sure to check out the schedule and/or the guidebook app for the times of the giveaways!
Workshops
This year's hands-on workshop focuses on the first-time experience of plamo model kit building. Tools will be available along with paint pens if you wish to finish and customize your creation. The representatives are always ready to help. Best of all, you get to take your model kit home to display as proof of your first build!
The first-time experience workshop will be held multiple time a day at Animethon 2023. There will be a limited amount of space for each session, so signing up in advance is required (In the Gunpla area of the Exhibition Hall B-C).

The Animethon Gunpla Team will be present to demonstrate the workflow of building plamo model kits. Observe expert builders, interact with them and learn the ways of this amazing hobby. If that piques your interest, space is available for you and your friends to come build a kit of your own.
Media and Video Games
Animethon Gunpla will have a multimedia display that includes movies, literature, and video games, from the past 40-plus years of Mobile Suit Gundam.
Animethon BANDAI Model Builders Contest
In partnership with Edmonton Gunpla Builders, sponsored by PLAMOD Distributors and MODEL KITS PLUS. Animethon would like to present the Animethon Bandai Model Builders Contest!
- This event will loosely follow GBWC, but it is open to other anime inspired BANDAI Model Kits.
- Judging will be held Sunday with Judges Ryan Lau, Thanh Nguyen and Albert Leung, Winners will be announced at 3pm on Sunday
- Look for QR code to vote for your personal favorite!
- To enter, models must be brought to the registration table in-person at the Gunpla area in the Entertainment Hall (see map) during active hours (see schedule). Contest registration closes at 01:00PM Sunday.
- Judging will take place on Sunday. Winners will be announced at 3:00 p.m. at the Gunpla area in the Entertainment Hall.
- All models must be claimed after the winners are announced and before the Entertainment Hall closes.
RULES:
- General rules for the contest will be the same as for GBWC (Gunpla Builders World Cup) standard rules. (This is a local tournament following the official rules) - https://www.gbwc.ca/rules
- One entry per person. If it's a diorama using multiple kits, it is considered as one entry.
- Bootleg/3rd Party kits are not allowed.
- Must be an official BANDAI model kit (Gundam, Dragon Ball, Macross, Ultraman, Pokémon, Evangelion, Kyoukai Senki, etc.). Transformers model kits, Metal Build and Robot Damashii figures and others will not be accepted.
- Entries that have been in past EGB contests are not eligible.
- There will be 3 winners (1st, 2nd & 3rd) and a special award winner. All entrants must be present when the winners are announced in order to claim their prizes unless other arrangements have been made.
- As all aspects of the contest take place in the Exhibition Hall contestants must have an Animethon pass to enter the hall.
