Animethon Gunpla is excited to bring the world of Gundam PLASTIC models to Animethon 2025. There will be displays, workshops, building demos, as well as THE ANIMETHON BANDAI BUILDERS CONTEST! Come to the ENTERTAINMENT HALL and enjoy many activities, SOCIALIZE WITH THE BUILDERS ABOUT THE exciting world of Gundam and other Bandai model kits!

What is Gunpla?

The term “Gunpla” is short for “Gundam + Plastic Models.” They are models of the mecha featured in THE “MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM” FRANCHISE.

COMMUNITY GROUP

Edmonton Gunpla Builders is a collective community of like-minded builders and collectors that enjoy the hobby of Gunpla Building! Community members in association with the Model Enthusiast Group meet once a week (Millwoods Town Center and soon to be various other locations) to socialize, build, and showcase their work!

Workshops

This year's hands-on workshop focuses on the first-time experience of plamo model kit building. Tools will be available along with paint pens if you wish to finish and customize your creation. The representatives are always ready to help. Best of all, you get to take your model kit home to display as proof of your first build!

The first-time experience workshop will be held multiple time a day at Animethon 2025. There will be a limited amount of space for each session, so signing up in advance is required (In the Gunpla area of the Exhibition Hall B-C.

Gunpla Speed Build Competition

Speak with the Gunpla staff at the Gunpla info desk to purchase a ticket for Saturday’s speed build competition. With this ticket you will be supplied with a entry grade Gundam model kit, you may bring your own tools, if you require tools speak to one of our staff members and we will loan you a pair of nippers. Prizes will go out to the contestants who build the fastest and the cleanest! Have fun!

Plamo Kit Live Demos / Free Building Area (at the Gunpla Booth)

The Animethon Gunpla Team will be present to demonstrate the workflow of building plamo model kits. Observe expert builders, interact with them and learn the ways of this amazing hobby. If that piques your interest, space is available for you and your friends to come build a kit of your own. 

Animethon Model Builders Contest - Gunpla Builders World Cup (GBWC)

In partnership with Edmonton Gunpla Builders, sponsored by PLAMOD Distributors, ENV Colllectibles and Nii G Shop. Animethon would like to present the Animethon Model Builders Contest!

To qualify for the GBWC category for the Animethon Model Builders Contest, please inform staff when you enter the contest that your build meets the specific rules for GBWC https://gbwc.bandai-hobby.net/en/regulation/. First Place Winner of the GBWC category will be awarded a GBWC Crystal Trophy and Pin, runners up in the category will have access to a limited supply of GBWC Pin's. The first-place winner will be the overall winner in the Animethon Model Builders Contest, and you will also be able to win in other categories.

Outside of the GBWC category the contest will loosely follow GBWC rules, but it is open to other anime-inspired BANDAI Model Kits. (Third-party decals allowed, rules subject to exception by the judge team)

• Judging will be held on Sunday with Judges: Ryan Lau, Thanh Nguyen and Albert Leung, Winners will be announced at 3pm on Sunday

  Best Diorama – Best environment around the entry
  Budget Build – For the most money-conscious builder (Note: Event kits or if you “got it for free” are not acceptable)
  Crystal Abbenhuis Award For Creativity
  Best Open Category - Best non-Bandai entry (removed from GBWC specific category)

CONTEST TIMELINE:

1. To enter, models must be brought to the registration table in-person at the Gunpla area in the Entertainment Hall (see map) during active hours (see schedule). Contest registration closes at 01:00PM Sunday.
2.  Judging will take place on Sunday. Winners will be announced at 3:00 p.m. at the Gunpla area in the Entertainment Hall.
3. All models must be claimed after the winners are announced and before the Entertainment Hall closes. 
   

RULES:

1. General rules for the contest will be the same as for GBWC (Gunpla Builders World Cup) standard rules. (This is a local tournament following the official rules) - https://gbwc.bandai-hobby.net/en/regulation/
2. One entry per person. If it's a diorama using multiple kits, it is considered as one entry. 
3. Bootleg kits are not allowed.
4. GBWC Category must be a BANDAI GUNDAM MODEL KIT
5. Entries that have been in past Animethon contests are not eligible.
6. All entrants must be present when the winners are announced in order to claim their prizes unless other arrangements have been made.
7. As all aspects of the contest take place in the Entertainment Hall, contestants must have an Animethon pass to enter the hall.
